  • Description : Buddhist Hanging Scroll Painting at Beopjangsa Temple and other relics found
  • Location : 69 Suseonongju-ro
  • Designated in : September 2011

The painting was made in 1923 by a team of monks (Jawol, Haksong, and Deokju) headed by Monk Chugyeon (penname: Gosan) -- who carried out brisk activities in Seoul and nearby areas -- and presented to Gamroam Temple in Sungin-dong, Seoul. It shows a typical style of the 19th century Buddhist paintings, with red and green predominating and blue added partly. The shapes of Buddhas look more refined, and colors look more stable in this piece than those of any other work made by Monk Chugyeon.

A written prayer and a bokjang jumeoni (pouch containing sariras or Buddhist scriptures hung beside a Buddha image or a Buddhist painting) remain in good condition.
